Buffalo Bore Ammo
Does anyone have any experience with the Buffalo Bore brand of ammo? I read some reviews of it on Midway and it sounds like it might be worth trying in my .357 mag.

Re: Buffalo Bore Ammo
I was in my local gun store this afternoon picking up my new Taurus Judge .45 long Colt or .410 3" chambered revolver. Since he is my neighbor acroos the street 2 doors down he recommended that I keep it loaded with #5 birdshot -- he said the 255gr Buffalo Bore gas-check wadcutter might pass through the dude and get him inside his house there down the street (he was kidding, sort of)
He said he was getting a lot of requests for Buffalo Bore ammo... we agreed in discussion that most factory ammo is under-loaded, allowing for variances and potential liability on OLD or weak firearms, whereas it seems Buffalo Bore loads more like a meticulous handloader up to the SAAMI max psi but not to exceed it unless with +P rated which goes over the SAAMI max pressure on a given cartridge. (SAAMI max is only 14,000psi on a Long Colt .45) Here is what I bought as "heavy" but 'standard pressure' as penetrators for follow-up shots... when a load of 117 #5 birdshot, and 2 shots with a total of ten 000buckshot does not stop a threat, I still have 2 of these .45 bullets to chase it with... I ordered a box from Midway, the 255gr SWC: http://www.buffalobore.com/ammunition/default.htm#low45 I'm looking at them now... the headstamp is Buffalo Bore and the brass looks to be bright and very high quality, along with the gas-check wadcutter bullet. Primers are flat and deeply seated, and best of all I see a consistently deep squeeze-crimp into the lead bullet, the heavy bullets can slide forward under recoil, -- IMO this crimp is very important for consistent accuracy as well, and a sign of good quality loads like I would load myself for .44mag wadcutters. Cartridge overall length seems 100% consistent to the naked eye lined up on a table top, it would take a caliper to spot any difference in OAL, very good. I've never fired them yet, but already I wish I'd bought these instead of the other brands (CCI, Remington, Federal, Winchester) that I have shot so far -- the price difference in .45LC seems negligible and the rounds look superior to my eyes already. I don't know about the .357 options, sorry. A chart with relative SAAMI standard max pressure of common chamberings... FYI:http://www.leverguns.com/articles/saami_pressures.htm |
Re: Buffalo Bore Ammo
I have shot buffalo bore ammo out of my 357 snubbie. I have no doubt a solid hit would stop an attack. Recoil was there but managable.
